Topic Dog Boards / Health / Have just come back off holiday

Hi

I have just got back off holiday and had frends into House and dog sit.

Mars the eldest Lab is 14 1/2 and with the good weather had been so insistant on going for walk every day with the other two that they took her.
I did ask that she was only to go every other day and they were very short and slow walks so as to keep her joints etc moving. She gets around the garden and house alot and so this is all she needs.

She has been limping slightly over the last couple of days but this morning could hardly put any weight on her front legs.

She has never really suffered too badly from artheritis and if she has been a bit stiff then it is normally in her back legs. I have given her a dose of Calpol this morning and just hope she is alright during the day and has been able to get up and about if she needs the toilet. I shall take her to the vets tonight if things haven't improved.

I worried so much whilst I was away that anything would happen to her as I wanted to be there for her at the end if any thing was wrong. I shall have to make a decision if it comes to it tonight as I do not want her to be in any pain. She has had such a wonderful life and doesn't deserve to be put through any suffering. It is almost as if she has waited for me to come back before she was ill.

Lets hope that its just simply over exercise. If she was used to a short slow walk every other day, it must have been a shock to her system, not to mention her poor legs. My fingers are crossed for you.

Finges crossed, and hope all goes well at the vets.

Do hope all is OK - if the lab was getting more exercise than usual it's hoopefully just a reaction to that.

Well my husband got home before me and even though she still has got a bit of a limp on her right side she has really perked up and had a chewy stick and walked a round the kitchen showing it off to everybody !

She was Ok this morning a bit more stiff but she normally is after a full nights snoring !

I shall keep an eye on her over the next few days to see she is improving if not then a visit to the vets.

I think she has got so much will to keep going at the moment, it is her way of making us suffering for going on holiday and leaving her !
