Hi,
my labrador bitch Cassy who is just over 18 months old has been suffering from diarrhoea for the last two days.  She seems well in herself, wagging her tail, eating, drinking as normal.
There is no blood, just very watery.

Could this be the weather?

The only other thing I can think of, she ate something she found on the park ( a discarded sandwich) when out for a walk yesterday morning, before the diarrhoea started....although she does eat anything and everything usually and never suffers for it.

Would appreciate any advice.  Jasper, the other dog seems fine but seems to be keeping his distance from her.
Thank you Joanne

Hi Joanne,

If as you say she's in every other respect "normal" then you're probably right and she's simply scavenged something which has disagreed with her.  Try fasting her completely for 24 hours - obviously leave her with unlimited access to water, and then gradually reintroduce small portions of food the next day.  I usually prefer if things have gone OK to give them their usual diet but in lesser amounts and partially soaked however if the "dire rear" has been of the explosive and / or mucus covered type then start off the first day of feeding with some poached white fish or boiled chicken first and then offer some more of same with a little mashed potato or boiled rice.

If this doesn't clear up all traces of her symptoms (and it does in probably 95% of cases) then take her to the vet just to be on the safe side.

HTH, good luck, Teri :)

I agree with Teri. One of mine is always eating things he shouldnt and if I put him on a special diet every time he would perminantly be on chicken or fish and would have bankrupted us by now!

If you like you can try a little carob powder or charcoal just to firm things up a bit.
