hi can any one tell if i have to put my bordeaux bitch on a course of sanulux before i breed her thanks for your time paula
Well mine has a weeks course before and a weeks course after.

I would never put a bitch on any abs unless there was a reason.

Same here. There is too much immunity devoloping to AB's as it is. No need either as a swab can be carried out in time to determine if there is a need before mating.

I've never given my dogs antibiotics either! I feel that too much messing about is being done with dogs these days and that's why so many seem to either have stillbirths or ill pups. I could be wrong and more than likely I am but I do not do this or have them scanned.
I have always followed the stud dog owners advice and the vets and they have both advised antis. You should seek advice off your vet.

But some vets will advise abs & others won't.
There really is no need to routinly give abs to a bitch prior to or post mating unless there is a reason ie CHV or BHS.

Nor does it have to be guess work, swabs can be taken as soon as the bitch comes into season.

Good point Isabel. :)

My girl has had a discharge post mating both times she has been bred. No specific organism identified and antibiotics given both time. The first time she went on to deliver 11 healthy pups, this time we are still waiting to see if she is in whelp. The vet has suggested that if she is mated in the future she has a course of AB prior to mating...
I dont no where but i've heard you should put a bitch on antibiotics before mating, then you should add though to their food bio yoghurt as it puts the good bacteria back in the gut after the antiobiotics, i'm not sure if it's a myth or not. Apparently female dogs can pick up through their vulva alot of infections which can go unoticed, not sure though as i dont breed. Good luck anyway with whatever you've decided aslong as you've put your girl through the necessary health checks it's not fair to breed an unfit female, even on the pups who are not born, the only reason i say this as there is alot of new owners who are having to put their dogs down through bad hip displasia and other uncalled for health problems.
Warm regards Susan
