Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Basset fauve de bretagne...off the lead?
- By Guest [gb] Date 11.07.05 20:25 UTC
We are very interested in getting a Basset fauve de bretagne but have been told that they should be kept on the lead because they are not very reliable at returning when called. Is that really true?

Can they be trained?

All advice gratefully received.

Bill

Hi Bill yes they can be very naughty and not return when let off the lead.My mum has 7 of them and its only her old one that will come back and then if she is being reall nosey she wont come back.
All the best Gwen.

I see a girl on the beach with a Basset (ALWAYS on the flexi lead!) and a Fauvre, who poddles around off the lead.  I wouldn't say that his recall is good :o, but he doesn't actually run away - more that when he's called he goes back when he's ready!! ;)

There is someone who has two that I see regularly at our water park and they are off lead and just tootle around and are really good, but maybe they're an exception to the rule, I don't really know the breed so can't help :d
