I know this is a Really wierd question! But im kind of on a quest to find out everything in the world about dogs! :p I suffer from anasphyxhia ( i Think i may have spelt that wrong) Can dogs get allergys too?
or has anyone got any cooool facts about dogs for me!!

Im in a mood to find some fasinating things out.. don't ask why because i don't know ;-)

My goldie, Ellie, is allergic to wasp stings!  Mind you thankfully she's only been stung once when she was a puppy, she trod on one in the garden as it was dying and it stung her paw.  Her face and body swelled up immediately so a speedy trip to the emergency vet was undertaken at 11 oclock at night (Thank goodness for insurance! :D). She had a couple of jabs and 2 or 3 hours later she was back to normal. We now keep anitihistamines in the house but thankfully we've never had to use them and she is now 8.

It must run in the family - me and my two boys are allergic to all sorts :D

Paula, what do antihistamines do then? genuine question btw. Is that in tablet form or medicine? My friend takes those but I thought it was because she had itchy skin.

The antihistamines are given in tablet form.  They're used for all sorts of allergies, hayfever, etc.  An allergy is the body's immune system over-reacting to a stimulus, i.e pollen, washing powder, etc, and I think that the reaction is triggered or caused by something in the body called histamine, so anti histamines suppress the action of these.

Anyway, the simple action is that they stop allergic reactions of all kinds! :D

I used to have a collie X GSD that was allergic to house dust, house mites, pollen, and all various kind of things. the poor dog was forever chewing his paws which is an indication of an allergy when they do it consitently. I had to see a specialist about it.
