Can someone tell me with entries to Crufts and age classes ie, puppy junior, special yearling. Does the age of the dog go as usual on the first day of the show or does it go on the age of the dog on the day the entries close.
Bit confused as someone said it was slightly different for Crufts.
Have read the rules for entry but can someone explain it simply.

Thanks

Essentially, yes, it is the first day of the show that counts as normal, but puppies must be 8 months old to be entered unless they already have gained a stud book number.

But I think if a puppy has qualified but is not over 8 months of age on the first day it is automatically qualified for the following year instead.

how can a puppy be under 8 months and qualify for that year anyways?

Dogs have to qualify for Crufts in the year before the show if they do not have a stud book number plus the week or so in the same year of the show before the closing date), so an under 8 month old puppy with a CC or Reserve C(hence the Stud Book number)can appear at Crufts but cannot go into the age classes. However the dates for 2006 do mean this would not be possible ie a puppy 6 months old on 6th JAn would be over 8 months on 9th March, but in some years there could be a day on which that could happen if the closing date is on a later date in Jan that the show is held in March

<A DOG UNDER 8 CALENDAR MONTHS OF AGE ON THE 9 MARCH 2006 IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR ENTRY AT THIS SHOW UNLESS IT HAS QUALIFIED FOR ENTRY IN THE KENNEL CLUB STUD BOOK. N.B. A Puppy so qualified which is between 6 and 8 months of age is not eligible for entry in Special Puppy, Special Junior or Special Yearling.

QUALIFIED DOGS TOO YOUNG TO COMPETE IN 2005.

A dog which gained a qualifying award prior to the 7 January 2005 but was under 8 months of age on the 10 March 2005 and, therefore, ineligible for competition at Crufts 2005, is eligible for Crufts 2006 without further qualification>

The Crufts lower two age classes are denoted "Special"in the classification with indicates that they are restricted & not open as all the other classes are(the special of special yearling is an error I think)

No the Special in Special Yearling alows the showing of dogs of 6 to under 24 months, but Yearling the dogs can only be shown from 12 - 24 months.
