My lab pup has hurt his leg. He was playing with Molly on Saturday afternoon, a bit of rough and tumble, and we suddenly heard him screaming. To begin with he wouldn't put any weight on his leg, and then gingerly put it down, but had his paw bent over. After a few minutes, and a few biscuits, he was able to put weight on it and walk, although he did look a little lame. I decided to rest him up for the weekend and as I didn't have the car today I thought I would see how it went. He did seem to be a little better.
Tonight he's just had a little play with the other dog, and he's done it again. Screaming for a few seconds and going a little lame again. Although he's not limping badly.
I'm seeing the vet first thing in the morning but I'm worried now that it could be more than just bruising and that it may be serious.
He's only a baby and I'm worried about long term damage.
I too have just had this happen last night to one of Pepsis pups. I was introducing Sam to the pup. Sam was actually really gentle but boxers tend to swipe with their paws and although I had a hold of him and he was being really good, he just caught the pup on his back leg. He was limping and not putting all his weight on it so I took him to the vets last night. Thankfully she could'nt see any brakes or such and gave him anti inflamitories and today he looks alot better but still is'nt putting all his weight on it. It must be badly bruised. It's a case of resting up I would say.
We saw the vet this morning and everythings ok.
Basically she said what he had done was sprain his wrist. She didn't give him any pain killers as she said if he wasn't aware of any sort of pain, he would probably use the leg too much, hindering healing. So good news, nothing to worry about this time!!
