Mines £110 for new pup equipment and cat litter.
I bet some of you guys with big breeds especially with several must spend an arm and a leg.
I'll tell you when we go to get the pups stuff :D
Word of advice Nat, start buying it now! Get the odd bits and pieces every month and store it away or else you might have a bit of a shock. Either that or start saving. ;-)
I have started collecting the odd thing, just a couple of toys, but we have got until November.... :(

But only buy the esentials :D The pup will grow out of collars and you may change your mind as he/she progresses as to what sort of collar/lead to use :) Don't buy an expensive bed - if you are using a crate, just buy a few pieces of vet bed or get an old duvet :D Toys will get chewed to bits -so things like raggies are a good buy :) We did fine that latex toys lasted a long time - but old lemonade bottles gave a lot of fun :D

Yeah we spent a fortune on lovely bright new toys and the one he played most with was a top from a sauce bottle :-( I think the toy buying was more for my pleasure than his.
oh and think long and hard before buying squeeky toys...... drive you insane! Arthurs only allowed his for 20 mins a day because he gets sooo excieted. Its his 20 mins now and I could bang my head on the desk!!! lol

I find buying at different stores stops the large lump sum..... being told amounts of £20 at a time is much less scary than getting told £100. And also to use different cards and cheques... this avoids the large number of listings of your local pet store on your bank statement cheques number 00067 for £50 looks a lot better than Witney pet store, especially when the other half looks at the statement!!! :)
I have spent many years practising this art, with having horses, being a student and now having a dog as well....
If we took the pup to the pet store will he choose his own toys? That will be easier!!! :D
As for the rest of the stuff, I know I will get in the pet shop thinking I will only get this this and that today, but I will come home with it all! Did exactly the same at Mothercare when I was pregnant, and exactly the same when we got the kitten!!! I can't help myself!!

Do check what your pup will need tho' - not all breeds have the same requirement - for example grooming brushes, combs. You won't need an enormous feeding bowl either :D
Daisy
Sorry Daisy, I must have missed your reply somehow  I found a breeders site with a really good guide on how to groom them and what tools you need, so I will take my list with me!
For my puppy's first bed, I got some cot sheets and a couple of cot duvets from Ebay - very cheap. Gave them a good wash and she loves them!! Her bed is a plastic one, and she hasn't really had much of a chew of it, so maybe in a few months I'll get her something a bit more expensive and comfy, but she seems happy enough in the plastic one.
We started stocking up on toys, bowls, grooming stuff etc about 6 months before - just 3 or 4 times a month.
Most expensive purchase in a pet store wasn't actually for the puppy, it was for the hamster! A £50 Rotastak Space Command house!
We are going to crate train, so I am going to get a piece of foam and cover it with plastic, then put some vet bed on top, do you think that will be ok?

Don't know about anybody else :D but Tara was just fine with a double layer of vet bed in her crate (that's all she has now). The crate has a plastic tray. If your crate only has a wire mesh base then you will need something else at the bottom. If the pup poos in the crate it will make a horrid mess without :) Use a blanket, large towel etc to cover the crate to make it nice and cosy :)

I used to work at pets at home and I think I was the one who kept the shop open!!! :)
When I first started there they had a white rat in the quarentine area that a customer had brought back and he was kept in a hamster cage :( I had to rescue him and ended up spending £120 on him for the biggest 3 teir cage in the shop plus all his food and toy and treats!!! Then I would buy the dogs things every night when my shift ended, probably about £40 a week :)

Well the most I spent in one go was about £250 on a crate - worth every penny. But I buy pet stuff wholesale, you should try going to some of the trade shows, its lethal!
I'm there every week and there's always something i see, so now i go in and come out if i start to look around i end up coming out with all kinds. Ranging from books toys.
Warm regards Susan

Hi,
I'm not sure if I should say now!!
Mine was at a discount doggy warehouse.
£150.00 that's not including there weekly dog meat.
I only had two Sam's then I have three now.
I am afraid they are a little spoilt, they like certain kind of
doggy chew's, bones, piggy snouts. I could go on egh!!
Regards
Denese
