Can anyone tell me if this is normal. My 8 pups are 5 weeks old tomorrow and had the 5 week dose of Panacur yesturday, today and the final dose tomorrow.

It may be coincidence and totally unrelated, but from quiet pups generally, they have turned into screaming lunatics. They have been happy in their puppy room which has access via an open door to a penned in area of the garden and have plenty of toys etc. All of a sudden they want to get into the rest of the house and will scream for ages if not let in (which I don't want to do due to carpets, furniture etc.)

Is it just their age or could it be the worming? This is my first litter so I am unsure what to expect. Mum isn't with them all the time anymore and they are all eating well. Any suggestions?

Completely normal I'm afraid, that is why many breeders won't use Panacur!  It can also give them tummy upsets.  I use Drontal Puppy, it's a one dose, one day every 2 weeks and I've never had a problem with it, unlike the Panacur!

Can I ask, is this the first time you've wormed them??

I agree I use Drontal.  I know too many people who have problems with Panacur.  But I am sure there will be other people on this site who think Pancur is best, but I have had bad experiences

i use to use panacur until one of my pups had a very bad reaction to it and was really poorly, wont be using it again

They were wormed at 2 weeks.

I have used Panacur as this is what my vet recommended. Their tummies were OK last time and seem OK this time, it is just the lunatic behaviour that got me wondering as it literally happened overnight. Why would the wormer cause this?

Yup,

I found my pups really hypo with the Panacur after the second dose, they were so bad they didn't get the third    I wouldn't use it on young pups altho the older pups and dogs do well on it.  Personally I think its the number of doses that causes the problem as a single dose in older dogs hasn't had the same effect.

Only by mistake when they got through my barracades, but they were put straight back!

pedlee it doesnt matter the fact that they went on new ground is enuf for them to remember it was fun, haha, i had a litter a long time back that was in there pen and sleeping quaters only, one day they too were making a right racket to join me and come out and play, found out later that day that the girls cleaned them out a different way to me, they brought them in to the kitchen to play whilst the other one cleaned them out, hence wanting to come and play in my kitchen. hope this helps

It certainly is a learning curve, this breeding lark!

Just to let you all know, the pups have reverted to their normal selves and are no longer behaving like lunatics. This makes me conclude that the Panacur caused the problem, so they will be treated with Drontol Puppy for their next worming as many of you seem happier with that.

or because you havent brought them out of there pen they have forgot what is on the other side, lol
