Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Question re Cavaliers
- By Guest [in] Date 25.06.05 11:55 UTC
We would like a Cavalier King Charles to join our family but I need to clarify one thing before we go ahead.

My youngest daughter suffers from ecxema but has no allergy to dogs generally.  I have read that Cavaliers moult considerably all year round, and that people with allergies should avoid them.  Do you think this would be a problem?

Please could you advise.

Thanks

Only going from my experience, I had a cavalier a long time ago and he moulted ever so slightly, my husband has quite bad ecxema (terribly allergic to cats) and he was fine. BUT thats just my experience, do you know anyone who owns a cavalier you could boroow for a weekend or spend some time with?
Good luck :-)

I have 3 cavaliers and they moult alot all of the time. If you brush everyday this will dramaticly reduce the amount of moulting. I have a son with ecxema and the dogs have never made his any worse.

The only way you can find out is spending time with some of the breed and see how your son reacts to being near the dogs.  It is actually the dander that most people are allergic to and not the fur.  Has he had any allergy testing as you may find out that he's fine with dogs.
