Very sound and sensible advice is given by experienced Members on this Board to people who are contemplating breeding, but who obviously do not know sufficient about the process. Hopefully, they will be grateful for the information you give them, and their enthusiasm is simply lack of fore-thought.
One other area intrigues me too, sometimes they also sadly indicate a lack of knowledge and experience of their particular breed of dog! Therefore how and what are they going to advise new puppy owners?!!!
I have met people who have brought a puppy (of which they are new to the breed) and have been so besotted with their dog, that they have decided to later breed a litter!
I am not a Breeder myself, but I do feel that ALL life requires careful thought and consideration for the well being of everyone concerned, especially good caring secure homes where puppies and owners will be happy together.

Here Here guest :D :D

I agree. Please join us. We do our best to educate and help where we can but the common sense that you have posted, unfortunately, isn't very common these days!

Absolutely. As with all new subjects that we learn about, we don't know what questions to ask because we don't know what we don't know!! Pet owners think that bitches whelp naturally and rear their pups with little help. That is rarely the case and knowledge, experience and vigilance are all necessary on the part of responsible breeder.

Now that particularly interests me because as a groomer, I daily came into contact with new puppy owners who had brought a badly bred puppy, complete with its health and temperament problems, from people who loved their pets and fancied a litter, with absolutely no knowledge of their breed or breeding. These unsuspecting puppy owners are frequently caused expense and anguish by the breeders' ignorance. I have done my best to support my clients through their troubles - but it's very distressing! :(

Doesn't it just but in this day and age the general attitude is "Why shouldn't I if I want to?" (apologies to those who don't think like this!) and then don't accept the responsibilty of what they have chosen to do. It'a always someone elses' fault! :(
Do join us guest PLEASE!!

I like you already!!!!! :D LOL Commen sense is valuble nowdays, hold it tight!

This guest sounds great. All the advice given on here regarding breeding etc is plain facts and common sense. Its not just going through the motions of having puppies but also the absolute responsibility that goes with it of ensuring those lives that have been brought into the world get the best homes they possibly can.It is not to be taken lightly.

I'm with the others, join! You sound very sensible! It took me over 20 years before I took the plunge to breed, and only did it when I was certain it was the right thing to do. Bit OTT perhaps but rather take too long than not enough time!
