Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / picking a stafford pup Question 2

Hi everyone and thanks for all the help in prev. question.

The reason i placed the first question is i have only just started showing my staffordshire bull terrier (2yrs old)who is our household pet and in 6 shows he has won 5 1st's but when he was a pup he was far from "standard" and has grown into his body and is doing realy well now.
What i now want to do is pick a pup to show from scratch and was wondering if i need to look for any phisical "signs of a champ" eg big head, that sort of thing.
If anyone knows of any puppy pictures of champions in this breed that might help, people i have spoke to so far though seem a little reluctant to give this information and every breeder seems to think there pups will be champs.....

It's one thing to be able to choose the best adult in the ring but a completely different ball game to choose a promising puppy in the nest.
Your best bet would be to make contact with an exhibitor whose type you like, who is consistently bringing out dogs that are winning - not necessarily CCs and not necessarily the top kennel.  Tell them what you're looking for go on their waiting list and be guided by their judgment.  Nobody knows their lines better than a successful consistent breeder.

There is a large element of luck to it to the swans sometimes turn into geese and the ugly ducklings into swans.  If the parents are to yoru liking then all one can do is make an educated guess.  If it were simple then the breeder would make a champion of every dog they keep :D

There are probably more potential champions in pet homes than there are in the ring.  Certainly it is not unusual for a dog from a well bred litter to come into showing as an adult in our breed and do well, and the same in many others.
