Buffy my cocker is having her first season and it is not going well, she has had the runs, been sick, and she cant seem to get comfortable, keeps pacing then lying down and then getting up again, i do feel sorry for her, plus she seems to be weeing a lot and when she does a pooh she really seems to strain, where as she never used to do that, is this normal, the last season i saw was my gsd about 11 years ago then she was speyed, not an expert in these matters.

Sounds like your poor little girl is having a tough time of it. One of my girls was just like that. You can try homeopathic or herbal remedies to try to lessen the symptoms (shes probably having cramps) but just an extra bit of TLC is needed.
Do keep an eye on her vomiting and runny bottom and ensure that she has plently of water. If it persist for longer than 48 hours pop her to the vets.

They often seem to have problems the first time, it's all a bit strange for them. Done worry, it all sounds about right for a first season. Next time she will know what to expect and won't be so bothered.

Hi Met wild yam capsules from health shop is for those type of cramps in both dog and humans . The dose is one capsule for the first week . should be gone by then. providing that is the reason she is in pain . Mari

Someone on the board (I forget who) suggested half a soluble aspirin in a cup of warm sugary tea, just to take the edge off those sore girlie bits.

It worked for Loki. She cheered up no end. And then she took her second season in her stride, she hardly noticed it was happening to her.

I just wondered if your bitch may have a slight infection that was causing her problems, rather than being to do with her season. My 10 month puppy just has her first season, plus her mother is also in season. They always seem to have a certain 'look' in their eyes, and mum keeps whining at the fence to the corgi next door. She also just stands in the garden crying. They definitely wee a lot more and also seem off their food somewhat.

I spoke to the vet today and she said everything was normal what she was going through, apart from the being sick, but that has stopped now, she is quieter than normal, the other problem i have now is someones dog that hangs around in our garden and wees up my front door, i said if it carries on doing this i am going to attach a note to its collar, as it has no disc on and tell its owners what i feel about irisponsible dog owners!! :p but thanks for all the advice that has been given.

That's good I was going to suggest to call your vet to check it out
