I am completely new at this so any and all advice is welcomed.  I have a 4month old doxie and we're guessing she is going to be having her first season soon.  Her husband is already interested in her and I am just wondering what is the youngest you can breed a dashound?

I'm not sure but i think she is definitely to young yet.  I'd say about two years old myself for any dog because their not mature in the mind or body at to young an age, it would be like getting a twelve year old child pregnant which wouldn't be fair.

Warm regards Susan

She is a double dapple miniture doxie and her husband is a dapple miniture.  Thanks for everyone's help...I spent so much time looking for a site that would help out and this one has to the best I've found hands down.

Please research the colour genetics fully before breeding these two dogs.  The chances of deaf and blind puppies is HUGE when you breed a dapple to another dapple, without one of them already being a double dapple.
What are you trying to achieve with this mating?

Hi, as the others have said, your puppy is far too young to be a mum yet, even if she were to come into season in the next few months. No bitch should have puppies befor she is mentally and physically mature herself. As a general rule it is said that the 3rd season is early enough, but surely there can be no rush with such a youngster. Please, allow her to grow up before thrusting motherhood upon her. I'm currently expecting a first litter from a bitch that is almost 4 years old, on her 6th season.

If she is a mini then her thrird season or 18 months, and if a standard then not until she is over two years old.

I beleive that they should also be eye tested.
