I was wondering if anyone had experienced small scabs on 3 day old pups? The scabs are very dry and stuck in the fur.
My vet assured me it was not a staph infection as the skin underneath was clean and well healed. I am sure the pups are now developing bald spots but the vet dosnt seem to think its anything new.
I have my doubts as these pups were seriously compromised from conception to emergency C section!
They have had terrible bowels, very smelly, have failed to gain weight satifactorily, and have needed constant round the clock help, as the mother didnt really want them.
A very sad and heartbreaking situation for all, but against all odds these boxer babies are now 17 days old and doing quite well!
The bitch also has developed ring worm from a hedge hog attack during her pregnancy, is on Grisofulven and has one yucky teat!!
And they say breeding is a breeze! HAH!

If any breeder out there can shed some light on these scabs I would be very grateful.

If the bitch has ringworm could this not be what is affecting the puppies?

hello ! i would also agree with bec, it sounds like ringworm, get your vet to check them again with an ultraviolet light or send off some fur samples for evaluation, i would insist if he is inclined not to be very helpful, afterall you are also at risk of catching ringworm. (also you should be wearing gloves when administering grisolvin ! sorry if that is obvious !) I presume your bitch is not feeding the pups at all ??

Hi, have just posted on another thread about one of our pups, lost mum during section so hand reared pups, had problems with explosive diarreour (sorry about spelling) and one pup got rash, he was always wet due to our Rottie bitch taking over the cleaning (she washed him too much) he had loads of angry spots which dried very crusty and some bits looked like cradle cap, he lost all his hair on legs, belly and sides, as soon as dhiorreah stopped she left him alone, scabs dropped off and hair grew back within week or so. hope this may be of help
