what is the difference? i know if you show your dog you have to go to ring craft training ect
But does it mean in the house it has to be treated differently from your other pet dogs?

Well I have 3 show dogs and 1 pet...all live in the house,all get the same food and all are spoilt.Above all ALL 4 are much loved pets...so in my house no theres no difference.
If you show ringcraft helps...but if you know what you're doing its not a must

IMO there should be no difference, a dog is always first and foremost a pet. In our house we have 3 dogs, one is not shown(has been in the past but she didn't enjoy it!), one is occassionally shown and the other was bought with showing in mind. BUT they are all treated the same, the older girls get the same fuss and attention, the same exercise and the same food. Idõ obviouly doesn't get the same exerciseas he's only 6 months but apart from that he doesn't get any special treatment just because I show him.
When I do ringcraft at home, I stand them all, so they all get a bit of attention and a treat, and no one feels left out.

This is what I think, there is no difference, I don't love one less if they don't do well in the ring, and of course its good when one of them wins but it doesn't mean they get more food/attention/privileges.

I thought the same as you two, But i had over heard people talking at a show, well ear wigging really lol.
I Knew myself there was no difference, and every animal wether shown or not is first and foremost a beloved pet.
I think some people are a bit nuts lol.
Me too :) mind you when it comes to pets.
My poor thing was too hot today, she didnt know where to go for the coolest spot bless her.

The only difference should be that a show home will show the dog as well.

Some people who have large kennels sometimes keep the majority in the kennels and one or two favourites in the house.  Personally though my oldest one is the most spoilt of the bunch and is probalby the most special of the lot as she has given me 3 lovely children.
