Hi, My mother has just picked up 2 westie pups (both 8 weeks old). Both pups ears are slightly floppy and the breeder suggested my mother wrapped some low tack tape around their ears to help "firm" them up. We're obviously keeping an eye on them with this tape on and certainly won't be leaving them alone (or in bed at night) with the tape on. It this the right way to be tackling this? Cheers HMR

I don't know about westies but in my breed we wouldn't be at all concerned about floppy ears at this age.Ears can go up and down several times before settling into their final position.I would just allow nature to take its course for a bit longer.

My westie's ears were down when I picked him from the breeder, and he said that his ears would rise within a few weeks, naturally. True to form, by the age of 10 weeks both of his ears were up. Its quite lovely actually because one morning 1 ear had gone up and the other was still down! To this day I wish I had taken a photo of him on that day. By the end of the day both ears were up. I have to say that I have seen westie's with their ears down, and they still look beautiful.

Don't worry just now. Don't tape them/
Trim the hair off the tip and trim to a point. Once you take the extra weight off they will pop up in days. It is very rare for them to stay down.
my yorkie girl was born with floppy ears but when i sent her to the dog groomers as soon as she was old enough she came out with ears up because they trim the ears i wish i could show you a photo of before and after i believe dog groomers call it ear trimming (please note i do not mean there ears are trimmed)it is the hair aroud the ears only the dog groomer can do it.
