what is the largest litter of pups you have ever heard about, just interested to know, wondering what the largest recorded is??
- By SaraN [gb] Date 19.06.05 11:18 UTC
It was quite recently actually (cant remember when) The world record so far is a litter of 24 puppies by a Neapolitan mastiff.

Cor, she must have been tired ;)

I think for records it is the most that have survived. The Neo litter lost 4 (still makes 20 live mind!) The record for living is 23.

lol blue. I feel sorry for the breeders that had to look after them and wean them ect lol.
Imagine all those around your feet :)

The Neo that had 24 was bred with the dog that lived with the bitch, i think that they were the only two dogs they had. And the husband gave up work to help look after them.

I heard about the Neo, but I thought there was one awhile back about a Saint Bernard something like 23 I think it was.... I may be wrong

My gran had a chi who had 8 pups & that was recorded as a record somwhere - will find out where - all lived.

This was before I was born though :-)

Just checked with my gran & it was 7 pups not 8 & she thinks it was late 1950's.

Does any one know if this has been beeten?

How come the neo bitch was re-homed ? I read in a dog magazine they were going to keep two or three puppies to show.  Does that mean they didnt keep any ?

My little Toby was one of 12. Largest litter I've ever known of personally, though obviously heard tales of much larger litters.

just lifted this from the guiness book of records site.

Largest Dog Litter
Three dogs of have given birth to 23 puppies each. An American foxhound bore her pups on June 19, 1944; a St. Bernard gave birth to 23 - of which 14 survived - in February 1975, and a Great Dane had a litter of 23 in June 1987

maybe it needs updating but there is no mention of the neo.
- By bowers Date 21.06.05 23:20 UTC
They didnt keep any of the neo's.

Oh, how odd

i wonder if they sold the bitch to a puppy farmer for loads of money on the pretence that shes done it once so she could do it again :(
