Hi i am a member but due to moving i cannot find my password..Alfies 6months old now and hes a darling! He hurt his leg 2months ago playing with a very large alsation so i rested him up which seemed to do the trick, then when we moved he decided to do a mad one round the gargen and hurt it again!i did the same again and it worked,so last week we were out in the garden nice and calm i called him back to me and he looked at me to say sod you im gonna do a runner and proceeded to run mad again the look on his face was like freedom!!but he has really hurt it this time resulting to a trip to the doctors.Doctor checked it and said there is nothing broken and has given him some anti inflamatarys, and only give him lead walks so thats what i have done but he seems no better and has lost his spark!!Hes walking like a old man not the handsome lad he is,i am taking him back to have it xrayed.Has anyone had his with ther rottie pup, were not sure if it is his leg or paw.Hi to carolyn and archer....marie..

Rotties are prone to joint conditions in their hips and elbows - it may be this.

Hi,

My youngest hurt his front leg when he was about 7 months old - we were out in a large open field and he seemed to fall to the floor squealing, rushed over to him and he was in a lot of pain - we rushed him to the vets but there seemed to be nothing broken etc, vet didn't want to x-ray him if there wasn't the need but sedated him to calm him and sent us home with anti inflammatory and lots of rest.

He seemed to get better and then as you say, running around he would let out a little squeal and come limping again. From then we had to really restrict his 'mad dos' and lead only walks :( it took around 6 months for him (and me) to be confident running around again and not cause injury, it was about 12 months until he was 100% back to himself.

The vet thinks it was ligament damage in his shoulder and because its used constantly, slowed the healing process down (you can't exactly confine a puppy to bed rest!) She guessed that he probably been doing that leaping, bounding puppy run and didn't land correctly, putting all his weight onto the shoulder - hence the injury.

Now two years on there are no problems at all - but, im expecting this shoulder to give him problems later in life so we are always very careful with him :)

I hope your pup gets better soon, its sad when they are not quite themselves... im sure his 'spark' will return once it's all sorted :)
