I've had my rescue husky for four months now. In February the breeder supplied me with worming tablets for the following month as this was when he was next due. So the following month I took him to the vets with my other dog to get his vaccinations redone and wormed both the dogs at the same time. Although, the rescue boy was very badly sick. He emptied out the entire contents of his dinner and then the following morning he had a poo on our patio which was very watery and had alot of blood in. At this point, as you can imagine, i became really worried and phoned the vet (emergency hours). I explained to the man that the previous day he had his re-start of his vaccinations and that he had been wormed too and obviously I told him about the poo with blood. He said that it wasn't to worry as my dog may have had an allergic reaction to something in the vaccinations. He asked if the dog was weary and not being himself but thankfully he was fine. Anyway, the vet told me to keep an eye on him and to starve him for 24 hours. The following day I was to feed him little and often of meals of boiled chicken and rice. And, if he was to take a turn for the worst then take him to the vets immediately. Thankfully my dog picked up again and started eating successfully.
Yesterday it was worming time again for both dogs. I fed the tablets with food and through last night my dog brought it all back up again. I know it was the rescue becuase the older one was sleeping upstairs and the little one won't climb stairs!
I'm now really worried as this is the second time that he has been wormed and this has happened. His personality didn't change a bit. We're going to be taking him to the vets next week but any advice between now and then would be great. Thanks.

Hi sounds as if the wormer is causing this, maybe it doesn't quite suit your dog and is upsetting his stomach.I would just give him light meals for today and hopefully he'll pick up fairly quickly.i would also look at the different options for worming next time so that hopefully this doesn't happen everytime,he's wormed.I think Huskys are know to have sensative digestions :)
Hi Satin
They have indeed but as he's a bit of a mystery dog i have no idea what his tummy agrees or disagrees with! Could it be possible that he's got worms and has had them for a long time because i have been very worried about him not eating and being so underweight. There seems to be no traces of worms in his poo but I have heard that they can infect the heart and lungs. (Sorry, i'm just really worried!). Thanks for the advice anyway.

Which worming tablets are you using and how much did you give your dog?
Drontal flavour plus and 2 tablets as he's just under 20kilos

Hi Keira,
Lots of dogs have problems with some brands of wormer so try not to be too alarmed - you will find one that suits your dog :) Mine have no problem with Drontal tablets but I get instant projectile vomitting if I use Panacur either tablets or liquid

but then again Panacur may agree with your Husky. What I have found to be useful for sensitive tums is Panacur Granules - the only product in their range which doesn't upset any of my own dogs. The granules are in sachets and were designed for use with cats but your vet will be able to work out the correct dosage to apply for your dog. They should be mixed in with food and I know he's a fussy eater so you would have to ensure that it was done during meals he was most likely to polish off  something smaller in portion size maybe and extra tempting :P The granules must be highly pallatable anyway as my dogs are VERY faddy and cats ............ well, 'nuff said :D
HTH, Teri
thanks Teri! You always seem to come to my rescue lol

Hi Keira
Indy had a bad reaction to Drontal. He cried all evening and couldn't settle and had diahorrea. Next time I'm going to try Panacur and see if it suits him better.

Thanks Kat
Taking Alpha down the vets this week anyway because he's severely underweight and we want him checked over (well dad can do without the bill!) but we've had him for four months now and he's gained nothing at all!
