Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Ridgebacks in Norfolk

Hi everyone.  This is the first time I've posted here, so I'll apologise in advance if I accidentally break any etiquette rules.

My name is Helen and I'm shortly moving to Yaxham in Norfolk with my husband and 14 month old daughter.

When I was 5 years old my father bought my brother and I a Ridgeback puppy (we called him Red but I believe his registered name was Riva Robin).  Red was a dream of a dog and when we lost him at 11 years old I swore that when I had a family I would buy a Ridgeback puppy for them too.

My husband comes from a 'cat' family and has never experienced living with any dog, so he is naturally cautious about consenting to a canine moving in, especially one quite to big (the Ridgeback seems huge to him).  He's also concerned about our daughter and how she and a Ridgeback would get on (despite my reassurances that they are great with children in their own 'pack').

He's asked if it would be possible to see a Ridgeback and to get to know what they are like, speak to someone about them and their suitability for our family, etc.  Unfortunately I don't know anyone with a Rdigeback :-(  Is there anyone out there who has a dog(s) and wouldn't mind a short visit from one excited wife, a nervous husband and a small child who adores dogs?  Hopefully between us we could show him that the Ridgeback is perfect and I will get to see my dream come true!

Many thanks in advance for your help and advice,
Helen

Hi
Firstly I would like to congratulate you on you and your partners responsible approach to getting a a dog.
Your best bet is to contact the breed club. They will be able to give you information on the breed and the names and numbers of responsible breeders who may be able to let you visit .You are far vetter visiting someone who has had many years of experience rather than someone with just one pet as all dogs are different and an experienced breeder will be able to give you a much more balanced over veiw of the breed
