I would appreciate any advice on deaf puppies, concerning their training, quality of life etc. If anyone has a deaf puppy/dog or has had first hand experience then please PM me.
Thank you in advance.xxx

Hi Tigerlilly
My dog lost his hearing when he was about 8 years old and had a fantastic quality of life. However, before the final operation, I took him to training so that we could both learn hand signals and he responded well to this. However, being such a friendly dog, recall was impossible when there were other dogs around, so watch out for this.
If I can be of further help, fell free to email me.
Sarah
Thank you Sarah, I have PM'd you :-)

HI Tigerlilly...i have trained numerous deaf dogs several from the Florida boxer rescue as well as a couple dalmations ...we use a remarkable tool called a pager collar that allows you to replace spoken words with the vibration of the collar,,it works so well most people cannot tell the dog is deaf once its trained..the dog must wear the collar when going out but they learn to focus on you in way that would not be possible with any other tool...we also use it on hearing dogs ..
I know of someone who has the most gorgeous ever deaf bull terrier :) who she had as a (sort of) rescue and trained very well.
If you want to PM me (messages at the top of the page) I will get back to you with contact info.

I have PM'd you Lindsay. That is exactly what I am after, someone who has actually had the experience of living with a deaf dog.
Thanks for your reply Kelly :-)
Never heard of those collars. I am trying to find as much info as possible so appreciate your advice.
I found this review of a pager collar, looks like they are expensive but it gives a contact number at the bottom for the UK distributor if you are interested? It appears to work like a clicker but obviously with a vibration instead

Thank you for that greatbritgirl, you're right they are expensive but if they work then it would be worth it. I was put in touch with a lady who runs the dalmation rescue on the Island (I.O.W) and she specialises in deaf dogs, she has been great and given me alot of advice etc and said she is just a phone call away. She has also emailed me her training sheets which she uses to train her deaf dallies (she has 17 deaf ones!) The collar will be my final resort if all else fails.
Thanks for finding that and going to the trouble of posting it for me.xxx

Hi tigerlilly heres a link.. http://www.deafdogs.org/training/vibratrain.php we do it a little differently but it is the most effective tool for safety and training of deaf dogs ...the collar we use is the dogtra 200 which is 200 bucks but you can often find them on sale for less

tigerlily,have i missed something,is your dozer deaf??
Thanks Kelly, I will have a look.
No Michelle, not Dozer, thankfully. I'll fill you in soon, I promise.xxx

will pm you now :)
Thanks Claire, got it.
I managed to get hold of a copy of the book "Hear hear! A guide to training a deaf puppy" by Barry Eaton today, so thank you to everyone who recommended it to me. :-)
I will keep you posted.
