I was intrigued reading the Visitors questions, and one about Showing a neutered bitch.  Apparently this is acceptable providing the KC have been informed.

It has been many years since I was involved in Showing (no longer do so).  However, may I ask those who know, do Judges still check to see if male dogs are entire?

Now if so, why?

If females have no visual sign and can be shown then surely males can too.

If Judges still check, how would you know if they were being biased?

Unfortunately, I realise that this would be obvious with certain breeds, and judges might still be biased.

Would it therefore not be a good idea to have separate Classes, as they do at Cat Shows, Neutered Male and Females and UNneutered Male and Females?

Hi Guest, yes judges do still check a males scrotum for the presence of 'two aparently normal testicles, fully decended' as that is part of the breed standard of every breed.

Neutered males are allowed to be shown too.

The lack of testicles is regarded as a fault, it also states that in the KC standards.

As we know, all dogs have faults, so this would be considered alongside any other fault.

Hi! Yes, judges check to see if a dog is entire. The difference between showing a neutered dog and a neutered bitch is that there's no reference in any of the breed standards about the presence of uterus and ovaries in a bitch, whereas they all state that a dog 'should' have  both testicles fully descended. However castrated males can indeed be shown; the fault is just another to be weighed in the balance.

I Have often wondered about the cat shows and how the neutered animals are shown and can they be made into a champion? I would be interested to know how this works. Please join and post here so I can find out :-)

Hi Polly,
Haven't shown cats for a good few years but it used to be that neutered males/females were shown seperately in Premier classes. Can become Premiers in same way that entire cats become champions 3 wins. Can have Champion neutered then becoming Premier with appropriate wins. Also Grand Champion and Grand Premier which I think is 3 wins in classes for champions and premiers only shown seperately not Premiers and Champions in same classes

HTH Hope it's right come to that :D
