My colleague's Mum is really in a panic - she is trying to introduce her 8 wk old CKCS puppy to her 8 yr old Lab & things are not going well.  The pup has only been with them since Saturday & I've tried telling her that it's very early days but the Lab's reaction to the pup has been quite full-on - lots of snarling & growling & the pup didn't help herself by trying to feed from Jenna the very first time they met!  Does anyone have any suggestions - let them both get on with it; let Jenna put the pup in her place or keep them separated with supervised meetings with both dogs on their leads?  I have a CKCS who has always been everyone's friend - canine or human - so I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to tell her.  Do dogs who live together usually sort out their own "pecking order"?  Any suggestions will be gratefully received...

hi.. ihave been havin the same problem with my 2.5 year old lab and my 8 week old puppy.....he was quite nasty and ran off and got into his bed when the puppy was about.. i was in a panic but got loads of advice on champdogs ..if you read back to some of my posts you will see what was said.. i have been given my older dog loads of attention and making him the special one.. we went for a walk today across our fields and i put a fabric muzzle on the older dog he growled a bit at the pup but was starting to tolerate her a bit more and even lay beside me and got his belly tickled while the puppy was beside me... i know it is going to take time but i do believe we will get there... i plan short spells together each day and hopefully we will all be friends... good luck

Don't forget to take the older dog out without the puppy. He'll be needing far more exercise than would be good for the puppy - to be honest, and 8-week old pup shouldn't be going out for walks at all ...

When we introduced our pup to the older dog she was very off hand and frequently butted him and snarled at him but within around 2weeks things settled down.
I made sure that the older dog got fed 1st, praised 1st everything imaginable she got 1st just to reinforce that she was ok.
I never told her off unless i thought she was being too heavy handed, make sure the older one has a time out space to retreat to as a puppy constantly wanting attention is a little hard for some dogs to bear.

when i say walks -i dont mean walks as in a big distance....i carried the puppy to the field and we had some fun, i sat down and the doggies did their own thing.... the puppy did her own running about and lay down when ready. the big guys get their long walks alone. i am sorry i did not mean to mislead anyone.
