I have a 15 month old yellow lab who is very grumpy at the moment. She had her first season just before christmas and now we think she's showing signs of her second as the timing is right and she's gone very moody (no physical evidence yet though.

However we think she may also have some sort of stomach irritation. We've always fed her on james wellbeloved with either a bit of scrambled egg/butcher tripe mix/minced chicken or turkey. About 4 weeks ago she started to leave her biscuits so we changed gradually onto a pedigree chum mixer which she scoffed. Now she won't go for a walk without constantly trying to eat soil and grass. I know this is usually a sign of some sort of irritation. also her breath is particularly bad and her teeth are fine. Vet's usually say to feed her on rice and chicken, something bland, but she just leaves this. Having said that she's always been a very dainty eater, taking her time over food. She's now getting increasingly grumpy (going back to vet's this week) and won't eat much at all.

does anyone know if a pro-biotic can work in this situation or any other suggestions?

A friend of mine had a chocolate labrador that did this just before a season. It could be hormonal. A sort of PMT as the vet described it, was making her depressed, grumpy and off her food. They had her spayed eventually which did seem to sort out the problem.
