Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Burns - dog gone off food
- By Guest [gb] Date 14.06.05 18:11 UTC
Our pointer has been on Burns for about 6 months and doing really well on it. However he has now gone off it (no sign of illhealth or other problems) and the only way we can get him to eat it at all is by adding a bit of Naturediet, and even then its hard work.  We really don't want to change food as this does suit him.

Has anyone else experienced this ? Or any ideas what to do?

thanks
alice

I know it sounds cruel, but if hes not eating it then thats tough. don'r fall into the trap of suplimenting it with tasty stuff, or he will suss that by not eating dog food he can get something nicer. If i was given a nice heathy salad and knew that if i didn't eat it i could have a nice tasty chocolate bar or juicy burger, then i wouldn't eat it. However if that was all i was going to get then i would eat it quick smart!! Leave it out for about 10 minutes but if he doesn't eat it in that time take it away, and don't offer anything else until the next meal. I would imagine after doing this a few times he will happily eat his own food without delay!
