Do dogs get fur balls like cats?
The reason I ask is that I was awoke at about 4am this morning to the very distinct sound of a dog retching. Immediately thought it was my puppy and ran to her but she was fine. By the time I'd located the other dog, he'd stopped retching and there was a puddle of greenish looking bile and a big ball of black fur in the middle. Obviously, called for the OH to clean it up. He didn't argue as he knows that, left to me, he'd end up having to clean up my vomit too (very, very weak stomach!!). Anyway, dog seemed ok afterwards, maybe a little subdued, and seems absolutely fine this morning; eating and drinking normally and eager for his walk.
I've never seen or heard of fur balls in dogs? Is it normal?

My toy poodles get this very rarely. Normally in winter when I let their coats grow a little thicker, they are always cleaning and preening themselves so some fur is bound to be swallowed. I normally put my fingers in my ears when I hear the retching though - brings back horrible memories of morning sickness. Why do Oh's get all the lovely jobs..I wonder??
