Topic Dog Boards / General / What the.....????? abandoned baby.. (locked)

I will truly, NEVER understand some people.....

I have just spent the last four hours minding a complete strangers baby... well, its my friends nephew, but ive only known HER for about two weeks.

She phoned me up at half nine 'can you mind my nephew until half 11, its a bit urgent'.. so i say yes, and arrange to meet the person who is currently minding him (clueless, stressed out 16 year old who was dumped with him), ON A STREET CORNER. She shows up and hands him over, now i dont know much about babies, but the poor kid was in a pushchair, wearing shorts and tshirt and VERY stinky nappy, with just  a fleece blanket, no socks, nothing. Also, no nappies and just a bottle of milk.

Fortunately, VERY VERYfortunatley, my friend Candy showed up as i was on my way to meet this girl, and she DOES know about babies (i havent got a clue and start retching at the first sign of dribble) and she basically kept him amused all night.

My 'new friend' finallyshows up at 1am, babys mother it appears has b*ggered off to Blackpool for who knows how long leaving baby with 16 year old and really doesnt seem to care in the slightest!!!! Poor little sod!

Anyway, on the upside, i now know my dogs are pretty much baby proofed!!!

Still cant believe it though its like something out of a sit com!

people like that shouldnt be allowed kids,i would never leave my baby with a 16yo be it my sister or not!
i rember last year 1 of the mums at the school asked me to go for a drink with her so i did,the 3mth old baby was there of course! after it we went back to my house and the oh was in .about 10mins later she asked if we could mind her little girl wile she went over the pup for 1/2hr.so we agreed this was 9:30 by 12 still no sighn of her so i phoned her no answer... then i got a phonecall of her at 1:30 asking could we keep her over night as she was drunk and had took somthing so she was in no state to care for the baby! i had no nappies or bottles for her so i took her to her grannies coz that was were her mum was living, her grannie was fuming but releved as she didnt know were her daughter had left her baby! i seen the mum at the school the day after and she kicked of saying that the baby slept rite through so why didnt i just keep her as ide got her into trouble with her mum. that was the first time ide ever talked to her,the cheek of it!

I'm not sure whether as mini-meg said "people like that shouldnt be allowed kids" OR that they should just have help and support to understand the needs of a child more clearly.

I would feel happier if I knew that Social Services was aware of the possible lack of care that this child could be receiving.

There are lots of people who have children without the necessary skills to deal with them.  It's easy to say they shouldn't have children and far more difficult for us as a society to think of ways to equip people with more effective parenting skills.  Projects like Sure Start can go a long way in giving the help and support that young inexperienced mums need.

The problem is many of these peoplle give more condieration to buying a pair of trainers than they do about haveing a child  and of course selfishness doesn't stop when the baby is born.

Hi,
Beware!!!! I would personally not have the baby!! The law's on
childcare are very stricked. If somethink was to happen to the child
you could find yourself in a court room, for just helping somone out!
If anythink happened to the baby say a mark, bruise or worse.
They could say it was o.k. when it was left with you.
Do you know your local health visitor? just, mention it to her, cover your back.
Unless it's family be carefull. Only my opinion.
Regards
Denese

I agree with Denese...you should NEVER take a strange child into your home. My brother and sister in law woke to a knock on the door one night and it was a small child who had been left home alone, got hungry and went out looking for someone to give it a biscuit....
my brother phoned the police as they did not know this child, and my brother and his wife got ARRESTED and treated as suspected child abusers for taking the child in off the street. Their solicitor managed  to talk the police out of pressing charges, but their names went on a register of people who were "potentially dangerous". This has affected them in many aspects of their lives, and it took a lot of legal wrangling to clear their names....despite the fact that they were totally victims of circumstance. I feel it would be perfectly justified to ring social services, who should be made aware that the child has been abandoned.....lets face it, your "friend",the childs aunt, isnt much of a person for dumping her nephew  on someone. if it were one of my family I would take care of them myself WHATEVER the circumstances.

That's terrible Pinklillies.  So what are you supposed to do, leave the child in the street?  I wonder if this would happen with every police force or whether that one in particular were just taking things to the extreme.  Unbelieveable.

My hubbie (who used to be a police officer) was driving down a country road, with no towns/villiages/houses for miles around, it was late at night raining and storming, and he saw two little girls walking along this road on their own, he said they looked like about 8 and 5 years old. He stopped as soon as he could safely along the road and was waiting for them to catch up, but then it crossed his mind what could happen if he did pick them up, knowing how the law can turn on innocent people at times when it comes to children, he had to leave them. He has always felt really guilty about it, and since having our son he says he would have picked them up, he couldn't stand the thought of our little lad walking in the middle of no where. But what has this country come to, when people feel they couldn't help in a situation like this?

Em that is terrible indeed. People can become parents so easily.

I hope you don't take this personally but even if the word is blanked out I think it should have been left out of the title. I don't mean to sound like a right prude but there has been a few posts of late with blanked out not so desireable words that would be best left unsaid. Blanked out or not people and youngsters know what it is.  I did it one a few weeks ago and then tried to remove it but I was too late.. I think it may have been a more gentle word but I did think at the time it was best left off.. :-)  don't take offense please :-D

Putting my tin hat on and running for cover.

Blue, if there was a problem im sure admin would have either edited it or removed it.
- By Zoe [gb] Date 13.06.05 10:47 UTC
How do you know what she was saying anyway :p lol could have been fudge :D
- By Blue Date 13.06.05 10:55 UTC
Perhaps Zoe but then if it was Fudge it wouldn't be blanked out :-D :-D ( I was expecting someone to say that) .  I wasn't being mean to Theemx as you can see from my use of smileys. As as a member also I think it is fair to say. Theemx has also been a member for a while so I thought she would have taken my comment not too personally as they were not intended that way.

Theemx,

I am sure you are right :-)  and I know what it is like when we get stressed out at times words come from nowhere ;-) but we have a lot of younger people on the board now , quite a few junior handlers etc and I am sure you just like I would like to protect their little " Ears and Eyes" :-D
- By Zoe [gb] Date 13.06.05 11:03 UTC
Yer right...there worse than adults :o lol

Im sorry but, i do wonder whether people who have to comment on wording or spelling have not got anything better to do.

The phrase WTF is a well known one in internet circles, and had i put 'What The Flip' What The Fudge' What The Furrydog' EVERYONE and i mean pretty much everyone who has got further in their reading skills than Jonny RedHat books  would know what the F word was really intended to be.

Blue i appreciate your concern, but ADMIN are here for a purpose. IF the title offends you, report it to admin, IF not then leave it be!

Personally I think that it is a pity that words/phrases like that have come into everyday usage :( I'm not a prude, but wonder why people feel the need to use them ? Children copy what they hear and a lot of parents try very hard to make sure that that word (amongst others) is not in their children's vocabulary. Most people have a sufficiently big vocabulary that they can choose another word :)

Deary me, I think my posts have been very nice and freindly to you AND I also pointed out I to had done it recently.

>i do wonder whether people who have to comment on wording or spelling have not got anything better to do<

You wonder is wrong :-) I am a very busy person and never nit pick on peoples spelling etc I still just don't think bad language is needed.

I didn't feel I needed to report anything to admin as adults I thought it fair to say in a grown up way without me causing offense and more so as you were a bit stressed out. This group is well known for being at times self moderating and I think it generally works.

I am just astounded that the letter F followed by some full stops has actually gained MORE attention than the issue raised in the original post!!!!!

I find it very hard to believe that there are children capable and competant enough to use a forum such as CD that havent already discovered foul language, and i really CANT see the problem is blanking out some of the letters!!!!

Blue, the main reason i suggested that IF you have a problem, you report it to admin rather than tell me about it, is that I CANT EDIT IT adn THEY CAN!

And, as far as i am concerned, editing out some of the letters IS my attempt at making this more suitable to read for children, am afraid i am NOT going to change the way i speak or write for someone elses children -- if they are not mature enough to read posts from adults and decide which parts of the english language they ought to use themselves, then they are not mature enough to be using the internet unsupervised!

Em

Admin, please could you edit the title and replace the word 'F.....' with 'FluffyDogs'.
