Read all three.
Other end of the leash I found rather ordinary - nothing I hadn't read before.
Culture Clash - Excellent as are JD's other books - all address behaviour problems from a very scientific/factual/objective view point.
BUT for me Suzanne Clothier's has to be the best book ever written (at last count I had almost 200 hundred canine behaviour/psychology/training books on the shelf) from understanding dogs point of view - very subjective and enlightened. I have read and re-read Bones countless times and it provides answers that go beyond the hard-wiring, instinctive approach to problem behaviour.
It depends where your interest lies!! I started training dogs 30 years ago in general obedience, you know, the kind of thing you do to have a well behaved dog. One of my dogs excelled in obedience so I got into competitive obedience and then working trials, schutzund minus the protection element. I later rescued a dog who I knew would eat agility and scenting so got interested in that. In order to get the best results (for fun not competing) I got interested in the theory of how dogs learn and what effects their learning so did psychology courses. Obviously not all a dog does is learned behaviour some is inherent in the breed so did courses on canine evolution, communication, body language and behaviour etc etc. I later did work for a rescue centre and they started to send me out to deal with dogs they had rehomed who were giving their new owner problems and also rehabilitating dogs before rehoming. For the last couple of years now I have been getting referrals from vets etc. and travel around dealing with 'problem' dogs.
If you let me know what area you are specifically interested in I would certainly pass on titles which I found to be the most useful. You could PM me.
