Hi,
You don't say how old your daughter is nor which breed you are interested in. Obviously you will be looking for a family pet, and the responsibilty will fall on you, since no child can be totally responsible for a dog.
Is your daughter interested in doing things with the dog such as Kennel Club Good Citizen Awards and perhaps junior handling? A little more detailed background would allow us to advise you better, and help you to explore the responsibilty you will be taking on, for example you might think a large active breed is for you, but in reality it might be that you would have more fun with a smaller dog.
Please join the forum and tell us more about your daughter, your situation and what breed you are hoping to have. I'm sure everyone here would be more than happy to help you make the right decisions. One youngster joined here months before he got a puppy, and learned a lot. He is now taking part in training groups, attending dog welfare seminars and thoroughly enjoying his new dog.
Don't be put off joining if you really want to find the best course for you and your family. Perhaps your daughter might like to join us?
