I have just come across this site, not to use it or anything but it states that pedigree dogs registered with them can be shown at exemption shows. I thought that even exemption shows were licensed by the KC, or am I wrong (again). I don't have the url to the site as I found it through blackpoolpetworld.com (don't worry folks I wasn't looking to go near that place either!) but I think the whole thing is very misleading.

Exemption shows are the type done at Village Fetes etc. usually fun classes, and any dog can enter them without papers. Suppose it sounds good on the site for people buying the dogs who want to show and don't realise that you get no recognition for this type.

I did think that you could enter the "waggiest tail" etc without papers but I didn't think you could enter the classes for pedigree dogs, puppy, post grad, open etc. Still its been donkeys years since I did the exemption circuit.

Yes unregistered pedigree unknown (but obviously purebred) can enter the pedigree classes at exemption shows! So their assertion means nothing, as any old dog of a recognised breed withour papers would be on the same footing!

I actually have their 'registration' pack. I wanted to see what you got. Basically they will accept whatever you put on the form! They state 'Our club has now got thousands of happy customes, many who are professional kennel Owners, and dog breeders' They missed the reputable bit off! They say that whilst other clubs charge you for just a registration document we provide a registration document AND a FREE 3 generation pedigree sheet (basically whatever you have told them printed out on paper!)
They further say that 'Our club will be useful to those breeders/owners who for one reason or another are unable to register with any other canine organisation (i.e. those that have been diciplined by the KC maybe!)
The registration document is similar to the old style KC ones (maybe thats why they changed them as I know Dog lovers is also simialr to the old KC style) and you get a pedigree printed out on a bit of card!
On the back for change of ownership it states I/We the buyer/buyers of the dog named overleaf acknowledge that the dog is as a family pet and not for show.
You can also apply for change of ownership even if the previous owners cannot be traced and havent signed the form!
By giving first class documents at the time of sale this greatly enhances the sale of all puppies (allegedly)
Finally, surprise, surprise, they are based in Wales!

its a good way of getting money for nothing!!!!!its not worth the paper its written on--pet buyers should be made more aware of it, :D

Bec -
Have just had a look at their site, and found this

(Quote)

If you decide to register your puppies with us, you will be given an official receipt, in duplicate, so when you sell your puppies they buyer can sign this receipt and keep a copy of it, while you keep a copy for yourself. This receipt will make it clear to your buyers that they are not purchasing a "Show Dog", but a first class pedigree puppy, as a pet only. The receipt is a legal document, drawn up by our lawyers for your protection.

Depends on the legal definition of 'first class' I suppose!!!

They seem to be based in Manchester, actually - I thought they were part of Mayfield Kennels

The Dog Lovers Registration is part of what was Mayfield Kennels. The address for the Uk pedigree dog thingey is in Cleveleys.

Bec, in a previous mail you said it was based in Wales but now you say it is in Cleveleys? I think Cleveleys is the most likely, about 4 miles from the shop in Blackpool

My Geography aint that good but the people who answered the phone had a Welsh accent!

Hey now, Bec - we used to live in Wales (as does Westie Lover) and we're certainly not puppy farmers!!! Think the English are as bad, anyhow, if we're pointing the finger! Or the Irish ,or the Scots, or the Americans.........

My sentiments exactly Jo. There are puppy farmers all over the uk. I am told puppy farming took off in the 1980's because when milk quotas came in the Min of Ag sent out suggestions to dairy farmers as to what they could do with their spare milk to prevevnt it being thrown away- and breeding numbers of dogs and feeding the puppies on milk was one of them. Were you milking Jo, is that correct? What ARE puppy farmers doing with their puppies now? Do they all go to pet shops?
- By Bec [gb] Date 02.04.02 19:53 UTC
I didnt mean to imply that there are only puppy farmers in wales. I know there are many all over the place in fact there was one not far from where I live. He sold all his pups direct but has disappeared now!

Jo it also says in the tinyest print possible that the information on the document may or may not be accurate in some other words as I dont have a certificate to hand.

I always thought that if the kc exemption licence was being used (ie exemption show) then it was for KC registered dogs only......there are then classes such as dog most like its owner etc for non reg. dogs. I maybe wrong.
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 02.04.02 12:47 UTC
Think they should be but as they only ask for a pet name who is going to know if your pure bred dog called 'Patch' is registered or not. Jackie H

Isn't it awful though, the amount of puppies this pet shop in blackpool is selling. I couldn't believe how many different types of pups they had. And what vetting is going on, very little I should think. Unfortunately this will be the easy way for a lot of people looking for a pup. Why bother looking for a breeder and waiting for their next litter when you can go and pick up a pup on the way back from Sainsburys?
