hi can anyone help i have 2 staffs a dog and a bitch the dog is 10 mths the bitch 5 mths.  The last couple of days the dog has been sniffing around the bitch and attempting to mount her, i'm now keeping them seperate which is very hard. Does this not seem very young for a 1st heat. There has been no spotting  yet but i'm told this can take place in the second week. As these are my first staffs i would  greatly appreciate any advice.

I'm not sure what age staffies normally first come into season, but generally speaking smaller breeds often start earlier than larger ones, and it can be 6 months. But if your bitch isn't coming into season, she could have a urinary infection or vaginal infection or similar as dogs often confuse ANy smell there for a season. In fact my boys thought a bitch of mine was in season when she had a wound on her eyelid as they smelled blood.
