Hi,

We had a bitch who is around 7 months, and we wuld like another dog. We have been to see a litter, and we would like another bitch.

Do you think it will be to much with another pup? Would it be double trouble?

Would it me much more expensive?

Would it matter we havent got a huge garden? If we walked them so much?

Would the 7 month month old pick up bad habits with the new pup?

Please help me.

Personally I would not recommend you get another dog until your present dog is at least 18 months old.2 pups together are really hard work even if you know what you are doing. There would be a good chance of all the hard work and training you have put in being reversed  if you were to get another puppy now.
I would wait a bit longer until the dog you have now is grown to adult.

yep ide agree with kia mummy, although it would be nice for your 7mth old to have a play m8 they would be hard work and double the trouble.and the 7mth old could pick up any of the new pups bad habits.training is ment to be harder as they tend to be more interested in each other as opposed to you! so i would also wait till your pup is around 12mths/18mths befor you get another.as you may well change your mind and decide not to! its not unheared of for people to train 2 puppies at the same time, but alot of hard work.and many who have done it have said never again! :d

I think its always preferable to wait until one pup is reasonably well trained and mature, 18 months to 2 years is the earliest i would reccomend. If you are getting another bitch then it is definately adviseable to leave a bigger gap as bitches that are very close in age can have problems working out their pack order, particularly if they are the same breed and evenly matched. It will cost more, double vets bills, double food, double insurance e.t.c. but costs are not too drastic. As for work, yes it will be a lot more work. Idealy they would need to be walked seperately for a while to begin with to allow you to focus on each dog seperately. I got my second dog when my first was 18 mnoths and for the first 10 months of my second dogs life she was walked seperately, partly becuase it ggave me opportunities to train her without my first dog passing on any bad habits, and secondly because the younger one wasn't allowed to walk as far. You've then got to train them to walk together nicely. If you go to training classes it will mean having to go twice unless you have someone else roped in to help. Having spoken to many trainers and behaivourists who have had two dogs very close together most have said they wouldn't do it again. Sorry to be so negative, there are definately positives to having two dogs but i think you have to go into it with your eyes open to avoid any problems somewhere down the line.
