HI ALL I HAVE A 6YR OLD BOXER AND HE IS IN PERFECT HEALTH APART FROM 1 OF HIS BACK LEGS HE CAN WALK GREAT AND EVEN RUN ON IT BUT WHEN WE GET HOME AND HE LIES DOWN HE TENDS TO GET UP WITH A SLIGHT LIMP I HAVE TAKEN HIM TO THE VET AND ALL HE TELLS ME IS THAT IT IS ATHRITIS AND TO KEEP HIM TO LIMITED WALKING, I HAVE DONE THIS NOW FOR OVER A FORTNIGHT AND HE IS STILL THE SAME IT IS QUITE HARD TO STOP A BOXER FROM RUNNING AROUND AS THEY ARE ALWAYS FULL OF ENERGY, MY SELF PERSONALLY THINK IT MIGHT BE A PULLED MUSCLE BECAUSE SOME TIMES WHEN HE DOES TEND TO RUN HE PULLS UP NOW AND AGAIN BUT ITS BEEN A WHILE NOW AND IM STARTING TO GET A BIT WORRIED NOW AS MY VET HASNT REALLY GIVEN ME AN EXPLANATION IT WOULD BE APPRECIATED IF SOME ONE COULD HELP ME PLEASE

It sounds as though it may be hip dypslasia but the only way that you are going to truly find out whether it is or not is by having him x-rayed.  It may be just that he's pulled a muscle too, but without an x-ray you won't really know.

I can tell you now that after having a working dog who wasn't allowed to do any walking for 8 weeks it's a lot easier than you think if you've got a big crate that you can put them in.  I was dreading the total rest but she coped brilliantly.

If you've got a cage put him in there though only whilst you are around if he's not used to being caged and see how he goes for the next couple of weeks.
