Now you are all looking at this post thinking DOG ATTACK, I have some good news. I LOVE STAFFS!!!!!  Okay I have 2 and they are the BEST, I have grown up around many breeds of Dog and I can quite happerley say that Staffies have more to offer than any other breed I have owned or met and their good points far far far out weigh their bad. I will now always own a staff as they are 'THE BEST'. I think its time we got staffies rep up a bit so only leave post of good staffie things.

I have a staff pup.....and i wouldn't change him for the world, he is the most friendliest dog that i have ever met....but i was advised when i got him that staffs are a kids best friend :-D :-D
- By ice_queen Date 09.06.05 21:58 UTC
Staffs are lovely (though would never own one!!) however, unfortantly there are too many that are poorly bred and given them a bad name :(
- By Tenno [gb] Date 10.06.05 13:11 UTC
I have 3 now - eek!  I do agree they love the kids more than me :-(

My 16kg girl staffie is at this moment being slept on by my 2yr old son, who likes to hold her ears when he sleeps ??!!!  like a comfort blankie!

Love them to bits

I have a staff which i took away from he's owner when he was 8 months old.
He was jabbed in the leg with steroids from his previous body building owner in the hope that it would make him aggresive. He was left somedays for up to 12 hours in the bathroom so as to stop him eating the house. when the owner got home if anything had been destroyed the dog would take a beating. The poor boy escaped from home at every oppertunity he got and kept on ending up in the dog pound. The last time the dog warden picked him up the owner was told if he escaped again he would sent miles away for rehoming. the owner then said he could stay there because the dog was too much trouble. I got wind of this and went to the dog pound and took Max home. In the beggining he was nervouse around newspapers and raised voices. He's 9 now and is by far the most frendliest dog i know he loves other animals, kids and everyone. He's not scared of newspapers anymore. I have other breeds but of all of them my staff is the one i can honestley trust when it comes to not showing aggresion. He is by far the cleverest but dozzyest dog i've ever known. he is still a bit of an escape artist i gotup the other morning to find he had managed to climb up and open the window to go out in the garden. Everyone who meets max love's him and he is a great example of the staffie breed.
I LOVE STAFFS

I love Staffs too!  My boy is 2 yrs old and lives happily alonside 2 GSD's and 2 BSDs (one of whom is another male).  He was well socialised as a youngster and gets on with everyone (human and animal).  The problem is unsocialised dogs and "matcho" owners!!

- By poppynurse [gb] Date 10.06.05 16:06 UTC
Hurray!!!!!!!!!!!!! A positive staff post :) :) :) I love SBTs - and yes they are addictive.....I've got four now, I wonder if hubbie will let our family increase in the future.............

my very fav staffie is a lovely little girl called phoebe (show name "phoebe footwarmer") she does obedience, shes to die for & has the most lovely face & fantastic working attitude & is a total goof, not abit of nastiness in her anywhere (& as you know im the most cautious person in the world with staffs!)
if i could meet more like her id be quickly re converted. infact if i could have one exactly like her id be happy. shes only pet breed though so i have no details of her lines etc

ok ive just seen a stunning staffie walking perfectly down the road with ba happy relaxed lady owner, but it was wearing huge brass collar & harness...i think i find the "gear" that some people put them in kinda scary.it makes them look really tough& abit scary!(well it does to me anyway) is that the image that should be portrayed??????

why do they need tpo wear all this leather & brass?is it just staffy fashion?
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 10.06.05 16:26 UTC
I agree, Michelle. The industrial-strength studded leather gear makes them look positively dangerous, whether they are or not. I'm afraid I'm not going to give them the benefit of the doubt. We'll go another way instead, which is a shame, because the ones I've met (without my dogs) have been delightful.
- By michelled [gb] Date 10.06.05 16:30 UTC
yes i was just thinking how your average staff owner could promote the good rep of their breed & imo not dressing them up in huge leather /brass studded harnesses may help.

what do other staff owners think.

im just trying to give staff owners a insight to how the public may view their breed,
not trying to stir up trouble

>im just trying to give staff owners a insight to how the public may view their breed, not trying to stir up trouble

I know exactly what you mean. It's definitely the image that is given of the breed.

Until I started 'talking' to staff owners on here I wouldn't have dared go near one, purely because of their public image. Now I know better (thanks CD!), and that they're great with people. Unfortunately other people don't have the benefit of CD and what they see is what they believe.

But the leather harnesses were for weight pulling I think? Doesn't bother me to see a staff in a harness - it does bother me to see a staff with a young bloke, off the lead, swigging a can of lager!

Education is what this breed needs. Folk need to stop selling these dogs to the wrong types of owners - who then go onto breed and sell again to the wrong types of owners.
- By tanyandtony [gb] Date 10.06.05 16:28 UTC
i must admit i dont like all that brass collers and harness stuff that you generaly see on staffs
- By Tenno [gb] Date 10.06.05 18:29 UTC
Mine has a small staffie coller - but not one of those huge things you somtimes see

I hate it when they are called butch names too :-(
- By subwax [gb] Date 10.06.05 19:09 UTC
I brought a collar my Josie off of Ebay - didnt read that it was 1.5 inches thick. When I put it on her, the misses couldn't stop laughing. Then it dawned on her that I had transformed my beautiful girl into the "chav dog" from hell. Needless to say, it has been swiftly returned.

I now need to buy her a nice leather collar - anyone got any recommendations? By the way, she is a red.
- By justlou Date 10.06.05 20:18 UTC
Hi Subwax...i bought my pup, half collar...half choker and he chewed it so now i've bought him a full choker chain :-D
- By justlou Date 10.06.05 20:30 UTC
Sorry i also forgot to mention that when i walk my pup....i use a harness for him, rather than a choker, i got a gorgeous harness from wilkinson's for £6.99....good quality as well :-D
- By kazz Date 10.06.05 22:25 UTC
Hi Thanks for that JG. I am pleased you have changed your perception on Staffs. I use a nickel studded collar for my two but not the harnesses.
- By justlou Date 11.06.05 10:30 UTC
I'm not sure that this will work.....but if it does you can see a picture of my pup, he's now 6 months old. :-D

- By justlou Date 11.06.05 11:06 UTC
Hi leanne...i'm not sure how to enlarge it, it's a biggish picture that i have but when i copied and pasted the link.....it's only small :-)
- By justlou Date 11.06.05 11:17 UTC
O.k....i'll try to work out how to make this picture of Steele my pup bigger :-)
- By Coleystaff [gb] Date 13.06.05 12:46 UTC
we dont like all the brassware that you can see on staffs. We just have a good tan leather collar and lead, anyway Giorgia is too pretty for any of that nonsense
- By Ory [si] Date 13.06.05 21:53 UTC
Hi! It's so nice to see people appreciate those lovely dogs for who they really are!! Lovable, sweet creatures that can give so much happiness. And here I am still reading about myths of locked jaws that some people on this forum are writing about..... come on people, educate yourselves!
