As its time to renew my car insurance i thought i would shop around for a cheaper quote. Up tim now i have been on my dad's insurance as being only 22 premiums were extortionate. However now my dad no longer drives i decided i needed to get insured under my name and build up a no claims bonus. However i went on a suite that gave lots of quotes, and was actually quoted a much lower price than i have been paying, hurrah!! What really annoys me though, is that the second lowest quote was from my current insurer for £100 less thatn my renewal price, despite the fact that my dad is a lot older, and has 5 years no claims bonus and i was just a named driver. Why on earth would they quote a young driver, who has had a few minor prangs (opps!) less than an experience driver who has 40 years or so of driving and never had an accident? THere is no logic to this world!

ah that would be because you are a new customer (ins in your own name this time) what alot of companys seem to do is give you a nice and cheap quote for the first year and then come renewal time it suddenly goes up. (they think that you wont be bothered or have the time to hunt around again! so will renew with them) ...and the company  you first thought  was expensive, suddenly doesnt seem so... :D
its worth remembering that come renewal time its automatic with most companys so if you dont want them again for the next year you have to get in touch with them an cancel.
also worth checking are the excess on each quote as they can vary aswell... alot of cheap insurances have high excess amounts which you have to pay if you make a claim.

hope that helps explain the logic of insurance companys :-)
