Five years ago we rescued a springer spaniel from a local springer rescue group.
However, we noticed he was twice the height of other english springers and we
were told he was an old world springer. We just recently found out he is a european springer spaniel and are looking for information about him, such as
actual size, weight (he should be), and any other important info we to keep a
healthy and happy dog.

I have never heard of a European Springer, nor can I find anything on Google. Some show type springers can be very large particularly if you are more familiar with the working type.

The KC breed standard says: "Size: Approximate height: 51 cms (20 ins)." so if he really was twice the size he'd be a metre tall and wolfhound sized. :)

These days there are a lot of small sized springers around .Mine are what I would call standard sized and they are as Marianne says they are 20 ins in height. My hubby's mate has one from totally different bloodline and she is only 14 ins.Maybe the ones you've seen are this size and they just make your springer look tall.We had a pup once from one of our litters and he grew to be almost 24 ins in height so they can vary somewhat even within a litter.Out of all the pups I've bred he was the only one to reach such a height so maybe yours is just one of those springers that grew particularly tall.So long as he's fit and healthy I wouldn't worry

I've got a working springer who isn't particularly tall (can't find a tapemeasure at the moment but am curious now!) but my friends have a springer from a show champion and he is enormous in comparison and it's hard to believe they are the same breed when we walk them together, they are different in every way other than colour.
My springer is 22 inches at the shoulder so he's rather large. A couple of people have thuoght he was a munsterlander. He's definately a springy springer though!

17" approx at the shoulder and he weighs 22kg. 85lbs as per other post seems awfully large. What do labs weigh?

Our old working-bred lab (taller but not as stocky as the showbred ones) weighed roughly 60lb.

That's got to be a mistake then JG, hasn't it? A springer wouldn't be able to move his legs if he weighed 85lbs! I know mine is a skinny whatsit but twice the size would be enormous!

An 85lb dog is pretty weighty! A springer weighing that would be pretty much a blob, I'd have thought!
