hey i was looking on a site when i came across a dog called american mastiff also called a  panja these dogs have the same shaped head as a pitbull but it doesnt have the body i was quite intrigued as it looked like a dog that i would have.
i was just wondering if you could get these in the uk and if they are allowed here? or do you have to have them imported?
can anyone help?

The trouble is, if it resembles a pitbull the law would class it 'of the type' and it would therefore be banned.

lol yeh it is was guna say only the head looks like a pitbull but i tink a acutal pitbulls head is fatter and this dogs coat is longer aswell

I'd think that they would be safe enough from the DDA from a 'breed type' perspective. More great dane/mastiff than pitbull.

Interesting, the website I found shows distictly mastiff/great dane types. The other shows rottweiler/pitbull types. Quite different looking dogs. I guess this is what happens with some of the new 'breeds' that are being developed, it just depends what cross they are! ;-)

There are plenty of people breeding 'bandoggs' over here, which seem to cover a random variety of mastiff (and even pitbull) crosses. Looking at the websites, I would be more inclined to buy a KC reg great dane, mastiff, rottweiler or staffy from a really good breeder.

When you type American Mastiff in to google the majority of pictures that appear are the great dane/mastiff looking dogs and not the pitbull type.  There only seems to be one site that shows the American Mastiff as the pitbull looking dog so this leads me to believe there has been some kind of mix up and the dog in the picture is in fact a pitbull of some kind?? Either way I love the look of them both but HATE cropped ears!
