I am looking to purchase a great family dog for my children. We have purchased anread many books on the subject. I read a little about the Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen dogs and they sound great. Or something similar. We used to go to the pound as a little girl and pick out a dog. But most of the dogs in the pound are older. Thanks for your help.

Having done your research and knowing the sort of dog you want, I suggest you contact the Kennel Club at the-kennel-club.org and ask them to put you in touch with the breed club secretaries. They could then advise you in more depth and perhaps tell you where suitable puppies are. The Kennel Club also holds a list of puppies for sale. Make sure you know what health checks need to be done before breeding the sire and dam and ask for evidence that it has been carried out. Good Luck in your search. Let us know how you got on.

The Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen is NOT a dog for the first time dog owner. They are, after all, a hound and can be very strong willed and the males can become very dominant. Our male is very dominant ever since we got our bitch and now has to be separated from our male (neutered) GSD and my Aussie puppy.

It's no use just reading a little about them, you have to talk to other owners and breeders first.
