Hi,

I have recently started breeding from my cocker spaniel bitch. She has just given birth to her second litter ( first, this time last year ). I have used a reputable stud owner but have been having problems with this person. They have manager to pressurise me into endorsing the pedigrees of all of the puppies. They are also trying to get me to say to my new owners that they cannot show the pups either. I can see the reason why we need the endorsments ( puppy farms, etc ) but I think that the stud owner is being a little bit unfair. I have always wanted to breed and show dogs but this is truly putting me off. Are all people in the dog world like this!?? I would love to start showing but the person seems to be intent on putting me off. This person has had me in tears as they are making it sound as if they are regretting letting me use their stud ( although nothing was said when they were taking my money from me ! ). Many thanks

Is it possible that none of the pups are of show qulity.  I know if I was a stud dog owner I wouldn't want puppies from my dog in the ring that were not of a good qulity?  I'm not saying this is the case because  I have not seen the litter.  Maybe just ask the stud dog owner the simple question of "why" and see what their reasoning is.

BTW not ALL people are like this, just afew of the minority!

At the end of the day it is YOUR litter, has the stud dog owner signed the paperwork yet?

If nothing was said at the time of mating and it's not in writing then people should be allowed to show.  They shouldn't of allowed you to use the dog if they thought that he or your dog didn't fit the standard and that it was likely that the pups didn't.  Did you inform them that you wanted the pups to be if possible of show quality?

Regarding endorsing not to be bred from, Ihave to say that I agree with the stud dog owner on this one.  You SHOULD put this on the registration.

Well looking at it from both sides I would have to say that maybe she doesnt think the dogs are good enough and people being what they are the stud dog will probably get the blame.  My oldest bitch has the CC recorder holder for her father but would be laughed out of the ring due to her markings.  If I was you would I ask her why she doesnt want you to allow them to be shown.  Two good looking parents doesnt neccessarily make good puppies.

If you paid the stud fee and got the stud owner to sign the form to confirm the mating then they have no further control over the registration process and so you can register whichever restrictions you wish
