Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / need help on nutrition for a r/ridgeback

I was wondering if anybody could recommend a good diet for a 15 month old female (neutered) ridgeback, she recieves anything from 3/4 -2 hours exercise per day (depending on weather etc)She is quite a petite dog being not to tall and quite lean, around 32kgs. She was fed Hills Science Plan Natures Best which she ate but never seemed to really enjoy, sometimes not eating it all and usually fussing around and playing with it. We then changed to Burns brown rice and fish which she eats with no problems ,her tail wagging anticipating it! the only problem being she appears to have lost a bit of weight despite having slightly over the recommended daily amount. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi Guest,

Lots of folk report Burns to make their dogs a bit leaner - when you think about it fish and brown rice is a very healthy but relatively low fat diet ;)  It is an excellent food and if she's enjoying it I'd perhaps just up the amount a little and see how that goes with her.  Feeding guides are just that - a rough guide but not necessarily the correct portion for every dog.   You could always add some fatty treats to her diet but it may be that you're anticipating more coverage on her than she requires.
Why not register and then you'll be able to exchange info with members?   We don't bite :P

Good luck anyway, Teri :)
