Topic Dog Boards / General / what to think?

My bitch was mated on the 26 and 28 of may on days 14 and 16. She was very very ready and stud very well. The first maing was a 10 min tie and second a 20 min tie. After both matings she bled very very heavely. I have been told this could be cists, polyps or a tear. but the vet is not at all worried, but i insisted on antibiotics.
The thing is she has now stoped bleeding, but her vulva has definatly shrunk to nearly it's normal size.
She is great in herself, eating very well and very happy, not like a pregnant bitch would act.
I am totally devestated that she is prob not in pup.
What do you all think, it does not sound good does it?

I can't help you Claudia but i know someone who has had a similar situation they mated their dog then three weeks later she bled profusiley and they thought they were actually going to lose her and the vet just said it's normal but i've never heard of it.

Warm regards susan

Like us in pregnancy every dog is different.   I know how you feel though.  My girl didn't have a proper season, saw one drop of blood and that was it.  Mated her on day 9 and 11 which is unspoken for the breed here in England usually days 16 to 18 are the norm. but in Spain 9 - 11 days is the usual time. She screemed her head off through both mating, but was still up for it when the tie had finished.  She also had a 10 minute tie and a 15 minute tie.  I'm worried that although she was swollen she wasn't in season I just don't know, but my new boy doesn't bother with any dog, so he must have decided that the time is right as I've had him for 10 months now.

My girl has stayed swollen and is actualy eating for England and Spain although she's only 2 weeks gone.

Fingers crossed for your girl and mine :d
