Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / hip scoring and eye testing

I have 2 staffie pups a dog and a bitch the dog is 6 months and the bith is 8 months. I am hoping to breed from them at some point in the future, but I would like to get them both hip scored and eye tested first.
How do I go about doing this and how much does each test cost.
Can I have this done at my normal local vets or do i have to go somewhere special to have it done?
Please help as I want to do things properly and breed good healthy dogs

Hips can b e done at your vets at around £120 but again it varies depending upon where you live.  Make sure that your vet has x-rayed for hip scorin and also ask how many plates have been returned which weren't suitable.  If they say a few don't bother with them.  If you register and tell us where you live someone maybe able to advise on a suitable vet.

Eye testing can only be done by a BVA/ISDS/KC panellist & costs vary depending on how many dogs are tested at the session

Hi Guest you can get booklets explaining both the eye testing scheme and the hip scoring schem from the BVA at7 Mansfield St London. Your own vet should be able to advise you as well. If the vet says don't bother then change the vet! Any vet not advising clients to health test their dogs prior to breeding is not a good vet!
