Can anyone give me some information about showing? I have two ex-racing greyhounds and i went to crufts this year, these lovely show-bred greyhound people told me that i could show my two like a proper show dog if i have their pedigree and their breeders signature.

I have got both of these things and i have completed the relevant forms that the kennel club told me to fill out.

The only problem i have is that on the forms it states that the dogs being registered are only eligible for entry at a show for obedience and agility etc, but not for showing and these dogs can not have their offspring registered with the kennel club. I have phoned the kennel club to check that they sent me the correct forms and they said these forms are correct.

I am very confused. I am fairly new to the showing world. I was planning to show my greyhounds and if they were doing well, i wanted to breed them with a good quality show bred dog. My greyhounds are much like the show bred ones, but finer built and better looking in my opinion.

Does anyone have any knowledge about showing ex-racers like a pedigree? Has anyone been allowed to breed from them and KC register the pups?

Surely show bred greyhounds were produced by racing ones in the first place, so i can't see the difference.

Hi Guest,

I'd imagine what you have for your lovely dogs is a signed pedigree form only.  What you need to show your dogs in breed classes (ie. like what you were viewing the judging of at Crufts) run by the kennel Club is a KC registration document for each.  The simplest way to explain the difference is that a pedigree is merely a list of your dogs ancestors - sort of like if you personally decided to research and note down your family tree - whereas a KC registration document is the equivalent of your official Birth Certificate -  hope that's clear (works in my head :D ).  Also only dogs KC registered themselves can have their offspring registered with the KC and it must be the breeder who does this - not the new owner.

HTH, regards Teri :)

You have the wrong forms I think I was talking to a lady recently who shows two Racing Greyhounds(one I think was placed at Crufts)& so you must be able to do so under the KC Rules & Regs (on page 3.25 of the R & R)B14

<Dogs Already Registered-A dog already registered with another Organistaion within the British Isles recognised by the KC may be accepted for registration on to the Breed Register Copies of the appropriate registration/transfer certificate & official pedigree issued by the relevant Organisation should accopany the application. Dogs so regostered shall be named in accordance with Regulation B10>(which says you must use the name the dog is registered with & you can add an affix & another word if the registered name is just one word)

So you will need the NGRA docs & the right KC form Might be would ringing the KC & having a word with them

In my youth (recent then ;) ) a lot of my mum's side of the family had racing greyhounds - her family came from a mining community and apparently that was a popular activity so I met loads over the years but obviously don't know much about them that's of any value to the most basic query :D   Do remember they had lovely natures though!
