Hi Guest! Congrats on your litter! As your bitch has only just whelped it would be sensible to call the vet out to check over both her and the pups. For the first 24 hours after whelping I don't offer my bitches any solid food, only plenty of drinks, especially if they've eaten all the afterbirths. Giving birth leaves the mother's insides very tender, and it takes some time for them to settle back in a more normal position, having been squished up for weeks! The dark reddish-brown discharge is also normal, and can continue for several weeks, becoming lighter and less profuse as time goes by.
Is her whelping box in a dark, secure corner? Bitches generally prefer to have their pups in a cosy, den-like place in a quiet area of the house, rather than in a more exposed area. To help her settle you may have to stay beside the whelping box 24/7 for a few days.
But certainly call the vet out for a post-whelping check to make sure all is well. It's far better the vet comes to you than you take her and the pups to the surgery. Good luck.
:)
