HI

I've been lurking around this site for a few days now and, as you seem like a friendly (not to mention very knowledgeable) bunch, I thought I'd sign up. The OH and I currently share our lives with two dogs. Shay is a 16 month old crossbreed (Black Lab X Chow Chow) who we 'rescued' from a family when he was six months. Their kids had wanted him when he was a cute wee fluffy pup but weren't so keen when he got too big to cuddle. He is a big boy but a real sweetie and has turned out to be the most fantastic dog and so beautiful. Even the people who are frightened by his size stop to admire his looks! Our latest addition is Lola, our little chocolate brown Newfoundland puppy and just 10 weeks old today (as I type, she's lying at my feet, on her back, four paws in the air...so cute!). I've adored Newfies since I was young so I'm very excited to have the opportunity to be owned by one (hey, I'm under no illusions here!!). My obsession with trying to learn all I can about responsible dog ownership led me to this site. I look forward to being educted by you all!!

Welcome to Champdogs - as the others have said, its verrry addictive - and we don't bite - honest :D :D :D

I'm owned by 4 aussies, 2 labs, 6 cats (+ the feral three) - OH & assorted grown up sons/daughters/sil/dil & 6 grandchildren.   Retiring at the end of June - so more time for Champdogs :D :D :D   Not sure what I'm going to do then - still havent't decided what I'm going to be when I grow up!

Look forward to hearing about your two - sounds like its gonna be fun in your house when it gets muddy!!

Thanx everyone for the lovely welcome!!

Am already addicted...have to be careful cos have internet access at work and the hours slip by so quickly while the work piles up on the desk. On the plus side, if I lose my job, at least I'll have more time to devote to the dogs and Champdogs. Every cloud and all that...

I'm already finding out about the mud and muck involved in multiple dog ownership! I admire all of you who have lots of animals! When Lola arrived I thought we'd been sold a dud as she didn't show any typical Newfy characteristics. Glad to report that she has now read the Newfy manual and is displaying all the traits. Water bowls have to be changed every half hour as, as soon as a fresh bowl is left down, she promptly sits in it and splashes all the water out. As for Shay...he lists rolling in poo (cow/horse/fox/badger) among his favourite passtimes! Any tips on how to discourage this behaviour gratefully received!!

Hi

I am owned by a 2 year old bernese and a 7 month old black newfi called Odin :)
Lola sounds beautiful, I love the brown. I remember Odin at 10 weeks. It is amazing how quickly they grow.

I had they same water bowl problem. He sat in it, rolled in it, tipped it over and layed in it, or just scooped the water out with his paw. When he did this, I took his water away until he had calmed down and then replaced it. At 10 weeks water play is cute, but not at 7 months :)
The only thing he does now is slob in it. Every time he has a drink the slob turns the water to syrup...uuurgh!

Wow, a Lab x Chow, bet he's a real looker ;) I have a soft spot for Chows, I used to have one when I was a child and have always love Labs.

Welcome to the site, I am possessed........literally, by 2 Briards, a 2 1/2 yr old fawn boy (Monsterman) or Murfee to his friends, who is the love of my life and a 5 month old black "bitch" Callia, who is the love of everybody elses life except mine (only half joking) :D

I love Newfies to look at, but don't know a lot about them.

Hi mini meg, she had 7, 4 bitches 3 dogs, all good weights most weighed 17 oz at birth and are putting on up to 3 oz a day. We mated her with a fox red dog with the hope we would get a few yellows, we had someone waiting for a yellow bitch, but they were all black, luckily the chap said he would have a black cos he wanted a pup from parents he knew were good workers and had seen, he did not want to get one from just anyone, so was glad he decided to have a black cos it will have a fantastic home. Birth went well and now looking forward to the rearing I can't keep away from them I love all the little noises they make!!!
