i have recently purchased a husky pup(now 8 wks old) before i purchased her,i was told by my landlord(rented property) that they were going to re-do the fencing around my garden(which is next to a busy road).i knew that huskies needed good strong high fencing as they like to wonder, but now i have my husky, the landlord has changed his mind, saying that if i want the fence done,i can do it myself.but the problem is-i cant afford too,its a BIG garden! would a secure harness, chain and securely fastened somewhere do,or will i just have to have her on a flexi-lead in the garden with me?
also, trying not to hit a controversial subject here!.whats your opinion on using a crate, not just as a pup,but always if im out (max of few hrs)as huskies are destructive and cannot afford significant damage as my home is rented.i am planning to walk her every day,at LEAST twice a day.take her to my horses field, dog shows, agility etc.so she would be physically and mentally stimulated.you never know, she may not even be destuctive! she is now,but i guess all pups are!

I personally would not risk having any dogs without secure fencing in a garden. Too risky :)

I would go back to the landlord and ask him to honour his promise or even come to an agreement with them for you to make a contribution towards the cost :)

Personally I wouldn't leave a dog tied up unattended but on a flexi should be ok. I have got collies and 6' fencing and although they do go out on their own, I stand and watch them anyway, so I would have thought holding a Sibe on a flexi shouldn't be that different.

As to the crate, as long as it is big enough, GSD sort of size and it's only for a couple of hours max I see no problem in crating. I crated my pup till he was 4 months and then he went in the kitchen with a high gate but a Sibe would find a way out of that so a crate is probably your only realistic solution. Also as it is a rented proberty you don't want to risk being kicked out if she chews the skirting board off or decides to see what it looks like under the carpets!

Good luck with her, they can be a real handful. :-)

I would personally with this breed invest in some run panels which you should attach to the back of the property to whateve size run you want or can afford.

You should also consider netting the top of it , or if it is a large run then net over the edge to about 2 feet all around, as Huskies can climband jump 6 feet plus with eqase.

Bury weldmesh into the ground and angle it in foot or so at the base and backfill.  This should stop them digging out

It wouldn't be a bad ideaa to introduce her to a crate - make it her little "den" - put treats in there for her to come and go whilst you are there (with door open) and then she won't be unhappy at being left in it (with door closed) for a REASONABLE - ie no more than the 40 mins or so that you would leave a pup of this age.

As long as the crate is big enough, you can continue to use it as her den for when you do have to leave her for longer periods - from experience, it is the best way to avoid massive "chew-ins".

A covered run such as the modular system from Canine Kennels is the only way to go ;)

A Husky will soon try to chew through a wire etc for freedom, or dig up the stake in the ground if they are left alone :)

herras fencing are a good alternative if you havent got much spare ££ you can do a search on the net for suppliers for them

i got some 2nd hand great quality delivered for £15 each

if you cant afford to fence off your full garden get some of these
to make a run make a base from concrete slabs and attach at leat 4 of these panles would do you for now as she is tsill young :-D also ask for anti climb 1's the gaps are smaller :-D
