Topic Dog Boards / Health / Shar-pei - reaction to injections??????
- By Tat2daft [gb] Date 29.05.05 23:47 UTC
My Shar-pei has just had a last lot of injections on Friday.  Today I woke to find her walking about occasionally with an arched back (like a cat).  She has very soft, runny poos and then the next time very hard and constipated like poos ...................... she widdles fine the first time and then tries to widdle every 5 seconds after that only dribbling each time.  She has even started widdling in the house which she never does.  She is otherwise running about like a maniac as normal............. not letharic, or crying etc

What can this be - is this a reaction to her injections on Friday or could it be something else.

Please help as I am worried. I don't know whether to take her to the emergency vet (as it is a bank holiday today) or wait till Tuesday (obviously, with no harm to her)...............

how is she now?  Take her to the vet if you are still worried - its better to be safe than sorry.

I have two Shar Pei (had three) and we got our last one from a different breeder who didn't recommend having jabs until they were 4 months +.  We had to give him them before as he was desperate to get out on walks with our older boy.  But this breeder said that Shar Pei can have reactions to the jabs and when they are very young their systems can't cope with it.  Have to say we had our other two injected at 8 weeks and then again at 10 weeks and they didn't have a reaction.

How old is she?

Thanks Nic29

As I say, you wouldn't even think there is something wrong with her - it's just she is my "wee darling", so young and cost a lot of money (being a Blue).  She'll be 11 weeks on Tuesday.

I phoned the "Vets Now" 24hr Emergency here in Glasgow and explained the full situation to a vet over the telephone (she says it could be either a reaction to the injection, a reaction to the micro-chip or she has eaten a "Shar-pei Unfriendly" flower/shrub in the garden ......... she told me that it can wait until tomorrow as long as I keep a close eye on her and make sure she doesn't get lethargic, can't widdle at all or that it contains blood.

Will let you know how my little darling is once I return from the vet tomorrow morning.

oh lucky you having a Blue!  I have Bailey who's almost 3 and a red fawn and Dutch who's 4 months and a Chocolate Dilute.

Any news on your pup now?  I always found after they had any sort of injection they all got a touch of the runs for a day or two.

she's fine.  Vet thinks she's had a stomach bug - related to the injections .......... we don't know.

Just glad she is ok.  Have got antibiotics for her and hopefully all will be gone in a few days.

Thanks again.

Great news.  You should feed her some live natural yogurt whilst she is on her antibiotics.  Meant to help whilst on antibiotics.

Good luck with your pei baby.
