We are based in northamptonshire and have a young male coming up for 18 months, who we wish to breed.  He is a pedigree and the Kennel Club.

One of his grandparents were famecheck and in total his family history contains 12 Famecheck.

Our main reason for breeding Mac is not about money, he has a lovely temperament and is extremely intelligent.

Is he a Westie?
Most westies have fabulous temperaments!! I assume you show him to be sure he is up to the standard? If not - why not start? He willlove it and there you will make all sorts of handy Westie contacts who will educate you abouts tests required and everything else involved in breeding ...

I'm afraid that intelligence and temperement are not enough by themselves, he needs to pass health checks and be a really good example of his breed (which isnt mentioned?!). To be aproached you will need to prove his worth at shows or working trials.

Firstly, have a read of the first post on the Breeding forum of this site.

Fortunately (as advertising is not allowed on the Forum!) you haven't mentioned his breed, but you also don't say that he has passed all the breed-relevant tests for hereditary conditions (hip-scoring, elbow-scoring, BAER testing,eye-testing, heart-testing etc etc etc). Neither do you mention his achievements in the showring, working trials, field trials, agility or obedience.

There are hundreds of Champion sires out there - your job is to prove to bitch owners that he's got more to offer than his rivals ...

I would think that he's a Westie although the Famecheck kennel is now well known for flowers, oh and amusing adverts in the dog press :d

Westies generally have fantastic natures anyway. It is only the odd one like any breed who don't.

Stud fees for Westies also is not that high in comparison to some breeds so people can use the top show dogs in the country for a relatively small fee, about half the price of a pup.

Sadly the people who tend to want to use dogs that have not been shown or worked tend not to be the people you sometimes want to use your dog.

I would recommend enjoying his wonderful temprement and keeping his as a pet only. They do generally change when used at stud without a doubt.
