A couple of days ago my 4 week old Gsps came out in what looked like 'little hives' around their faces.
i took them to the vet the next day by which time they were starting to dry up and go crusty. He is treating them with CEFA antibiotics and said he was unsure what might have caused it but it looked like a reaction to something they had their noses round. There was absolutely nothing different that had happened to them preceeding this so I am at a loss to guess the cause. Has anyone any ideas. They are getting better but it was quite worrying.

as a guess-could it be because you've just started weaning and either the food or the dish hasn't agreed with them , it sounds like an allergic reaction,,so what have you done different, with it happening on their faces i thought perhaps different food,

As a thought, Puppy Head Gland? Seen it once in a Golden puppy of about that age. Try not to worry too much though, it's not very likely.

I hve started weaning but about a week ago and haven,t changed it since. I did panic about puppy head gland disease but Vet has ruled that out thank goodness and it does seem to be improving. they are just a bit 'scabby',some worse than others.

Thank goodness for that Sue, it's not a nice thing at all! In all probabilities its just puppy eczema or something similar. Please keep us informed.

puppy spots have all scabbed and dropped off but there is small amounts of hair loss where the scabs were. Will this grow through again.

Star,
we hand reared a litter and one of the pups had milk rash, all the hair on his legs and halfway up his sides fell out, he looked terrible (like a bald buddha) for a week and then hair all came back over second week, so don t worry it should grow back quickly.
cheers Lorraine
